Slough

A Berkshire town that is large in England, within the Urban Area of Greater London, (32 km) 20 miles west of Charing Cross, central London and 17 miles (27 km) north-east of the county town of Reading is Slough (/slaʊ/). Has now been demolished as work has started on the Slough project Heart, is the Brunel bus station and car park, opened in 1975. Include four milestones are Grade II listed structures: Slough railway station and Linden, Oak, and Beech Houses at Upton Hospital.

Chalvey, Chippenham, C.brook, Langley, Poyle, Upton, and Wexham are villages that are original that are now Slough suburbs. Relocated to Berkshire in the 1974 local reorganisation was Slough. Nurseries were prominent in the local economy until the town developed as an industrial area; around 1825, the Cox's Orange Pippin apple was first raised in C.brook (not then within Slough) and first raised at some point between 1868 and 1883, was the dianthus "Mrs Sinkins Pink" by John Sinkins, the Eton Union Workhouse master, which in Slough lays.

Run until its 1988 final closure by Messrs Buckland and Sons, was the Slough Cattle Market. Served by Great Western stations at Burnham, Slough and Langley is Slough. Slough Town F.C., who in the Premier Division of the Football League South currently plays, which of football in England is the 7th tier, is a senior non-League football team in Slough.

Serving Slough are numerous primary and secondary schools. In the top 10 best performers in the country at GCSE level are Slough schools. The largest industrial estate in single private ownership in Europe is the Slough Trading Estate. A plan for the large-scale redevelopment of the town centre as a focus and cultural quarter for the creative media, information and communications industries is the Heart of Slough Project.

Heathrow Airport, east of the town centre of Slough by about (8 km) 5 miles is the weather observing station of the Met Office that is nearest to Slough. Since Poland became part of the European Union, a new wave of migration that is Polish to Slough has followed. When a Slough Local Board of Health was elected to represent what is now the central part of the modern Borough, Slough became a local government area in 1863.

With their civil parish councils, Britwell and Wexham Court became part of Slough at this time. Near Heathrow Airport, London, Staines, Maidenhead, and Uxbridge is Slough, and the town is a hub for travel. Currently in the top tier of English Hockey, is Slough Hockey Club - the Ladies 1XI. Closed currently due to the Slough project Heart, is Thames Valley University (Slough Campus).
